Hillar Moore, III — A Biography

Hillar Moore, III believes our District Attorney should do more than just prosecute criminals to the fullest extent of the law. He believes our next District Attorney must work with faith-based and service organizations in our community to prevent crime – especially juvenile crime – to make East Baton Rouge Parish safe for all families.

As District Attorney, Hillar Moore will:

  • Vigorously prosecute those who hurt our children, especially Internet predators.
  • Strengthen the Witness Victim Coordinator positions to make sure the District Attorney’s office communicates with victims and families of crime.
  • Work with our schools to intervene with problem kids before they commit offenses and enter the court system.
  • Work with all Parish law enforcement agencies to reduce crime in East Baton Rouge.
  • Immediately identify and prosecute violent repeat offenders.
  • Demand high bonds for violent and repeat offenders.
  • Work to require drug tests for all felony arrests.

Hillar was born in New Orleans, La. in 1954. He is the son of Mr. Hillar Moore, Jr. and the late Bernadine Moore. He is the third of seven children. Hillar moved to Baton Rouge after graduating high school at Brother Martin, in New Orleans. Hillar completed his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice at LSU in Baton Rouge. After graduating, Hillar worked as an investigator for the East Baton Rouge District Attorney's office, where he collected evidence and surveyed crime scenes. Hillar received training from the FBI Academy in Quantico.

While working as an investigator, Hillar attended and graduated from Southern University Law School where he finished Magna Cum Laude in his class--quite an accomplishment while juggling work, law school and family. Following graduation, he began working in private law practice and has maintained this practice for the past fifteen years. Hillar has three children-- Hayden, Hillar IV, and John Michael.

Hillar is a member of St. Aloysius Parish and remains active in helping the church and coaching youth baseball. Additionally, he devotes his time working as a member of the Catholic High Men's Club.

Hillar's experience working in private law practice, coupled with his time working in the District Attorney's office provides him with a unique perspective of our legal system. He plans to bring new and innovative ideas to the DA's office, while reaching out to community leaders. Hillar will use a tireless work ethic and valuable experience, to serve East Baton Rouge Parish. Hillar is known and respected throughout the community, maintaining the highest Martindale Hubble rating of "AV" for an attorney.
